Lotos CT520D Air Plasma Cutter Review

Choosing a plasma cutter or welder can be an overwhelming experience. It doesn’t help that the majority of them will have a hefty price tag, even the cheaper plasma cutters or welders can run you hundreds of dollars. The last thing you want to do is spend all that money and get a product that doesn’t meet your standards or one that doesn’t even help you finish that important job.

Luckily, Lotos Technology who is well known for their top of the line quality plasma cutters has a wide range of wonderful products to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a smaller, budget-friendly plasma cutter or a higher-end one to help with those bigger projects, Lotos Technology has you covered.

For this review, we’ll take a look at one of my personal favorite cheaper plasma cutters, the Lotos CT520D

More Than Just A Plasma Cutter

The main feature that stood out to me and many other people is how the Lotos CT520D is more than just a plasma cutter. It’s actually a 3 in 1 Plasma Cutter, Tig Welder, and Stick Welder, all in one combo welding machine! I wasn’t sure if this would of caused the Lotos CT520D to drop in quality, but I was proven wrong as it still exceeded my expectations. Switching between the different functions of the Lotos CT520D is also a breeze, making it perfect for any job.

Portability And Quality

The Lotos CT520D was built to be extremely portability, weighing only 32lbs. Along with portability the Lotos CT520D is actually built with quality name brand components like Toshiba, TI, and Sanyo just to name a few. It’s rare to find a cheaper plasma cutter that’s actually built with high-end components.

Cutting Ability

From my own experience, the CT520D met the cutting standards set by Lotos Technology. I was able to Tig weld .250″ stainless steel and mild steel with ease. It was also able to cut .375″ and .500″ extremely well too. You can check out these other reviews and see how everyone else praised the cutting ability of all 3 functions. It can also cut copper, aluminium and other metal materials with ease.

Lotos CT520D Features
  • 50AMP Plasma Cutter Current Output
  • Max Ideal Cut Thickness: 1/2 clean cut”
  • 15-200AMP DC TIG Electric Current Output
  • 15-200AMP DC Stick/MMA Electric Current Output
  • Automatic Dual Voltage / Dual Frequency (110/220V 50/60Hz)
  • Uses Non-Hazardous Compressed Air
  • 1 Year Limited Warranty
Cons

I only have a couple of complaints against the Lotos CT520D welder 3 in 1. The first being that it doesn’t come with an amperage control foot pedal. You can always buy the pedal separately which I highly recommend as it makes things a lot easier. The CT520D doesn’t come with the 120V pigtail either. The last thing that bugged me enough to point out was how the ground cable was very short and became a bit of a nuisance

Conclusion

Overall my experience with the Lotos CT520D was exceedingly pleasant. A cheap plasma cutter, tig, stick welder that can hold its own against some higher-priced models is something that’s hard to come by. With only a few issues that are easy to fix and overlook with great quality, the CT520D would make a great addition to any shop or hobbyist’s tools.
